Mintos Description

General Information

Mintos is one of the key and big P2P players in Europe, which was founded in 2015 in Riga, Latvia.  Mintos also offers a mobile application, which makes investing so simple and easily reachable. The platform has recently received its investment brokerage license. Due to its big market share, Mintos has way more loan originators than other platforms. Mintos has about 63 loan originators worldwide and a big number of those loan originators are Latvian ones such as Mogo Finance - or Eleving group. There is conflict of interest between some of the loan originators and Mintos’ ownership. Mintos provides information about its loan originators on its webpage. To date, more than EUR 6 billion has been invested through Mintos platform. The platform offers more than nine types of loan for investing in.

Board & Team

Mintos’ management team is built of experienced professionals, who have strong backgrounds such as in international corporation and finance. Key management members are coming from good academic backgrounds as well, such as INSEAD, Stockholm School of Economics Riga and Riga Business School. Mintos has about 200 employees, which are working in different teams.

Financial Analysis

Comparing the annual reports of 2019 and 2020, three main ratios are taken for financial analysis of Mintos. The quick ratio, which measures the company's ability to meet its short term obligations with its most liquid assets, it is clear that Mintos had a better quick ratio in 2019 compared to 2020. In 2020, the ratio is lower and it expresses liquidity problems. In other words, it shows that Mintos had much more current liabilities than current assets last year-2020. COVID-19 can be a reason for it, but can not 100% say that it was because of the pandemic. To study the return on assets ratio, there is not a big difference between the ratios of 2019 and 2020. The return on assets in 2019 was a bit better than 2020. Mintos needs to use its assets more efficiently to have higher returns on assets. Finally, the debt to equity ratio is a good indicator of a company's financial leverage. There is a significant increase in the debt to equity ratio of Mintos in 2020 - from 1.43 to 4.29. It can be said that Mintos as a financial institution tried to rely on financing its business by debt-actually the whole industry relies on debt/loans. To sum up, it can be said that Mintos’ financial health is not good because of its liquidity problems and lower return on its assets.

Platform’s Score and Uniqueness
